The International Perspective

The Lund Precision Group is truly an international company. We are both active and comfortable in the multi-national environment. However, it is important to note that these international activities are not a recent effort for Lund. The Athlone factory was built over thirty years ago to satisfy demand that had already grown too large to be supplied from the U.S. From Athlone, we have served customers throughout Europe and the former Soviet Union.

Ireland's skilled, educated workforce provides a dynamic environment for Lund's European activities. Moreover, Ireland is a cost effective entry and distribution point for the European Economic Community countries.

From our two factories Lund presently serves customers worldwide, including Eastern and Western Europe, South America, Australia and Japan.

The Lund History

The Lund Precision Group presently includes Lund Coating Technologies, Inc. and The Lund Precision Products Division located in Holly Springs, Mississippi, U.S.A.; and Lund Precision Products, Ltd. located in Athlone, Republic of Ireland. However, the company’s origins go back to 1947 when Swedish immigrant Gustave Lund and his son Roger founded Lund as Lund Products, Inc. in an old mill building in Maynard, Massachusetts.

Gus and Roger Lund

The company quickly became the dominant supplier of cutting components to the U.S. agricultural market. In 1965, Lund Products was sold to Rexnord, Inc., a large Milwaukee based capital goods manufacturer listed on the New York Stock Exchange. At this point the company became known as the Rexnord Knife Division.

By the late 1970's the Rexnord Knife Division had successfully penetrated the European market for agricultural knives and cutting systems. In 1981 a new factory was completed in Athlone, Ireland to serve the European market.

Lund was purchased from Rexnord in 1985 by its senior management team. At that time, the company adopted the name of Lund International Corporation, to reflect its international scale.

More recently, in order to more accurately reflect the company’s broader scope in the cutting systems and wear parts industry, the names of the Hudson and Athlone operations were changed to Lund Precision Products, Inc. and Lund Precision Products, Ltd., respectively.

Finally, in April of 2004, Piper Industrial Coatings of Collierville, Tennessee was added to the Lund Precision Group. In the process, its name was changed to Lund Coating Technologies, Inc.

The facility in Ireland has full manufacturing and R&D capabilities, and occupies a 55,000 sq. ft. building in a modern industrial park. The Holy Springs operation occupies an 80,000 square foot facility.

In January, 2007, Lund embarked on a new phase. The Hudson, Massachusetts operation was relocated to an 80,000 square foot facility in Holly Springs, Mississippi, just southeast of Memphis, a major distribution center. In August 2007, Lund Coating Technologies was moved to Holly Springs as well.
